OFF ROADING ON A CHILEAN VOLCANO FOR THE DISCOVERY CHANNEL

image

I’ve been Series Directing a new adventure / survival series for the Discovery Channel which takes a car, a survival expert and a petrol head to four of the world’s toughest environments. In South America I experienced some of the most challenging shoots so far in my career, taking a film crew across volcanic glaciers one of the driest deserts on earth and a very, very wet rainforest.

This picture was taken on top of a volcanic glacier in South America and features Sound Recordist Darrell Briggs and myself tracking behind the talent on skidoos.

THE GREAT AMERICAN MANHUNT

image

I’ve been blazing a trail across America on a new National Geographic series about forensic science. We’ve covered eight states in three weeks and still going strong!

I’m following a team of experts as they use state of the art forensic science to track down and identify mystery targets across the North American continent. It’s a classic man hunt mixed with cutting edge science and high octane stunts. All self shot in HD on the Sony PW800 and Canon 7D. Look out for it in early 2012.

Wide Eyed Entertainment, is the British production company behind the series - working title ‘The Great American Manhunt’.

LIFE ON THE STREET

Really pleased to have completed a charity video project with Church Housing Trust, a national homeless charity.

The campaign film highlights the charities and the individuals that have benefited from it. We also advised them on their ongoing digital strategy for marketing their film.

Director Nick O'Meally, was really impressed with the work that CHT does…’It’s really amazing to know that there are individuals and organisations out there working so hard to help those vulnerable members of society, that we all too often ignore. I interviewed some incredible people who shared their personal stories about life on the streets. I was genuinely inspired’.

MY SHORT FOR THE SOUTH LONDON DRUG REHABILITATION SERVICE

I have worked with CDSSL’s inspirational staff to make a charity video for their website.

Over the course of making the film we interviewed a host of individuals who have successfully managed to beat drug addiction such as James, who spent years of his life in prison, battling class A drugs and trying to break a cycle of violence. He reached a crossroads recently after a near fatal overdose but through The Macs Project’s intervention, he has started to build a bright future.

Melanie has been on the streets since the age of 11, and used drugs for over 25 years. With the support network provided by CDSSL she’s slowly growing in confidence and learning to live a normal life.

The Macs Project do some great work and need your support.

HERE'S SOME OF THE FOOTAGE I SHOT OUT IN ALASKA FOR GOLD RUSH SEASON 1

Here’s a clip from the final episode of Season 1 of Gold Rush in Alaska. I was lucky enough to film the moment when the snow swept in, forcing Todd and his crew to shut down the operation and head south to escape the brutal Alaskan winter. Very cold conditions to film in but it made for a great season finale.

SHOOTING GOLD RUSH SEASON ONE

image

I’m back from Alaska after an epic two month shoot dodging bears and snow to make what’s going to be an epic ten part new Discovery series titled ‘Gold Rush Alaska’.

The series, shot on HD by a very talented Raw TV crew from the US and UK, follows the fortunes of a group of unemployed men who strike out for the wilds of Alaska in search of gold - a genuine story of man against nature. My highlight would have to be getting up and close to the wildlife including Grizzly bears. Let’s hope we’ve struck TV Gold. (Sorry had to say it!)

FOUNDATION 4 LIFE ALL 'BOUT ME AWARDS FILM

image

We covered the 2009 ‘Foundation for Life, All Bout Me Awards’. The night celebrated the achievements of all the young people who attended the All 'Bout Me workshops, an early intervention & prevention project, funded by the Safer London Foundation and the LDA and delivered by Foundation 4 Life and Eco-Actif Services CIC. The courses are aimed at young people between the ages of 11-19 yrs who are either offending or considered to be at risk of offending.

We delivered a full length film featuring the award presentations and a host of live music acts from South London.

AUDIO PODCASTS FOR THE BBC AND HOUSE OF ST BARNABAS

image

The BBC commissioned me to produce a series of audio podcasts for the website of The House of St Barnabas.

This charity works to help people who are homeless and is based in a beautiful Georgian building right in the heart of Soho, London. It offers work and life support via the excellent ‘Life Skills Programme’ and hospitality training from Kingsway College.

The house also operates as a private members club run by Quintessentially Soho. This bar and restaurant works as a Social Enterprise, providing ‘on the job’ training for the homeless individuals and the proceeds go back into the charity.

We were asked to train students on how to conduct a successful media interview and use NAGRA sound equipment. We also created audio podcasts, telling the student’s stories about how they became homeless.

BEHIND THE SCENES TWITTER SERIES WITH TENNIS STAR LAURA ROBSON

image

We have created a multi-platform web series, featuring exclusive behind-the-scenes access to British number one, Laura Robson.

Our online videos follow Laura’s progress as she creates a wristband for the international charity Right To Play. We’ll also get an exclusive insight into her everyday life as she builds towards Wimbledon 2010, where she’ll be playing mixed doubles with Jamie Murray (Andy’s brother). These films will be broadcast via Right To Play’s Youtube channel and shouted about by Laura Twitter followers.

With clear calls to action aimed to encourage interaction and conversation, the responses from tweeters will influence the next web video we make. With a digital marketing strategy devised by us we’re hoping this campaign will really take off across the twittersphere to give Laura and Right To Play’s charity wristband, the attention it deserves.

CONTENT FOR SOCIAL FIRMS UK AND THE COMMUNITY CHANNEL

image

I’ve produced a web video and broadcast film for Social Firms UK designed to highlight the work it does with social enterprises - businesses that trade for a social or environmental good.

Host Mark-Durden-Smith was really impressed with the concept behind Social Firms UK… ‘They are a great idea that make a real difference to people’s lives and we need more of them’.

The film was delivered for web distribution across the entire network of UK Social Firms and for broadcast on The Community Channel. The film was part funded by the Media Trust.
